Driver in fatal Kenner car crash identified

Updated:

KENNER - A 24-year-old man died and his female passenger was injured in a single-car accident Saturday morning in Kenner.

The crash happened at 5:15 a.m. in the 1500 block of West Esplanade Avenue. The deceased has been identified as Andre Isaacs. A police spokesman said he had recently moved to Kenner from Florida.

Witnesses told police they saw a white 2001 Acura Integra with Florida plates speeding westbound on West Esplanade Avenue. A short time later, the driver apparently lost control, went airborne, and crashed through a utility pole and fence outside the Rue Chardonnay Condominiums.

The driver died at the scene. The 20-year-old passenger was taken to University Hospital in New Orleans with a broken leg. She is listed in stable condition.

Kenner Police said speed and driver impairment are suspected in the crash.

As a result of the downed utility pole, traffic signals were out for a time in the area and some residents were without electricity. Entergy responded to the scene.
