Following some lacking defensive performances in SEC play, LSU's tradition of dominant "D" was restored against Florida, with the Tigers keeping the Gators out the endzone for the first time this year.
"Offense, they've been having our back all season, I think we finally stepped up and had their back this game," cornerback Jalen Mills said.
Head coach Les Miles added, "The improvement was certainly made by the defense on the day, allowed just six points, 240 yards. Again, tremendous effort."
The pressure LSU's defensive line produced up front was vintage, 8 tackles for a loss, including four sacks, exactly what fans and players alike have come to expect in recent years.
"That's what I'm used to, just getting to the quarterback, getting hurries, getting our hands up and knocking balls down," Anthony Johnson said.
"Danielle Hunter had a great game, I called him J.J. Swat after the game, and everybody played, we played selflessly as a defense, everybody was in it for one another, and that's why we got so much accomplished this past weekend."
And after surrendering a combined 67 points to Georgia and to Mississippi State in the first half of that game, LSU's defense has enjoyed an incredible turnaround. In the past six quarters, the Tiger "D" has given up just three field goals, a mere nine points.
"Defense really starting to click," Kwon Alexander said. "Everybody doing their assignment, everybody's doing the right thing, doing what they're supposed to do. We're just out there going hard and playing 100 percent."
Defensive tackle Ego Ferguson added, "The light turned on, I feel like we're practicing a lot more, converting the pass rush and getting a rotation in the game, different bodies, so we're staying a little bit fresher, our legs are more fresher for the third and fourth quarter."
Next up for LSU's D, an explosive Ole Miss offense that broke through with 38 points last week, providing a big test for the Tigers' tradition to hold steady once more.
