Woman arrested in doctor-shopping scheme

BELLE CHASSE, La. (AP) - State police say a Plaquemines Parish woman faces 28 counts of doctor shopping to obtain prescription drugs.

Troopers say that 48-year-old Carol Ruggles, of Belle Chasse, tried obtaining prescriptions for controlled dangerous substances by fraudulent means.

The investigation was referred by the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office last month and detectives used the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy prescription monitoring program to uncover fraudulent prescription activity.

Anyone wishing to report criminal or suspicious activity to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations, New Orleans Field Office is urged to contact detectives at 504-310-7000.
