Mandeville robberies lead to police chase

MANDEVILLE, La. - A man suspected of armed robbery at a Taco Bell led police on a car chase before being taken into custody.

Wednesday night, just after 11 p.m., Mandeville Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at a Taco Bell on Florida Street. The suspect attempted to rob two people with a knife, but the intended victims were able to stop the robber and he fled the scene.

While police were investigating the attempted robbery, a similar crime occurred at an Exxon gas station down the road. The suspect's description and method were the same as the attempted robbery, but this time the suspect managed to stab the victim in the neck with a box cutter.

Investigators found that the suspect was driving a white Volvo with no license plate and one head light. Police located the vehicle and a chase ensued with the suspect leading police out of Mandeville and into Covington. The chase ended when the suspect crashed into a tree and police took him into custody.

The suspect, 40-year-old Johnathon Leger, is currently being held in the St. Tammany Parish Jail on two counts of armed robbery, aggravated battery and aggravated flight.
