Voters take to the polls to decide on several important issues

New Orleans -- Voters across the state took to the polls Saturday to decide several important issues. 
 
In Orleans Parish, one of the important topics was a possible overhaul to the Sewerage and Water Board including a proposal to remove seats on the board, belonging to City Council Members. As of 11 p.m. Saturday, 295 of 366 precincts have reported and the results show that 70% have voted to remove the City Council seats from the Sewerage and Water Board.
 
In Jefferson Parish, voters chose to pass a property tax renewal that will generate $23-million a year for the school system. 
 
Voters in St. John the Baptist parish voted to pass a quarter of a cent sales tax aimed to help raise an extra two million dollars a year for the sheriff's department.
