Man killed, two people injured in Algiers shooting

NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans police are investigating a triple shooting in Algiers that killed one man and injured another man and a 14-year-old girl.

The shooting happened Wednesday just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Mardi Gras Boulevard and Copernicus Street.

Witnesses said the victims were driving in a dark-colored Buick when a silver, late-model vehicle drove alongside the Buick and opened fire. The suspects drove off in an unknown direction at a high rate of speed, police said.

The 31-year-old male driver died at the hospital. A 30-year-old male passenger sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body. He's currently in surgery in critical condition. A second passenger, a 14-year-old girl, sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg. She is listed in stable condition.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify suspects and a motive.

Homicide Detective Joe Jefferson is in charge of the investigation.
