Student set Baton Rouge teacher on fire

Baton Rouge, La. - A Baton Rouge middle school student allegedly set a teacher on fire but parents say they were never told of the incident.

East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's detectives say it happened about three weeks ago at Westdale Middle School.

They say the eighth-grade student lit a substitute teacher's burqa on fire with a cigarette lighter.

The teacher told investigators she had just reprimanded the child for misbehaving.

The 14-year-old student was charged with aggravated assault on a school teacher and brought to juvenile detention.

However, parents of other students at the school want to know why the school system didn't tell them.

School officials did release a statement saying an investigation was conducted and the student was expelled.

The teacher was not seriously hurt.
