6-year-old boy shoots, kills girl with pellet gun

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – Alaska State Troopers say a 6-year-old boy fatally shot a 12-year-old girl with a pellet gun at a birthday party in Delta Junction on Saturday.

The Anchorage Daily News reports that another child at the party had gotten ahold of the gun and given it to the boy.

Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters says the boy didn't know the gun was loaded. He was carrying the gun back to the house when it went off and struck the girl in the neck.

Peters says the children ran inside and told the mother of the girl shot what had happened right away.

The girl died at the hospital.
