Carrollton carjacking linked to Harvey bank robbery

NEW ORLEANS - Danielle Harris makes it a habit when stopping at the store.

"I look around," she says. "I look around, very vigilant around my surroundings, even before I take my young son out of the vehicle, I just look around. I bypass my car if I think something's hinky."

Harris will be even more cautious after a crime that happened at a busy Mid-City gas station Monday. Surveillance cameras at the Magnolia Discount on Carrollton near Olive rolled as a man carjacked a woman at gunpoint.

The 22-year old victim pulled up to the pumps in a Mazda 6just after 7 a.m. As she fueled up, two men wearing construction gear approached. Police said one of the men showed a gun and demanded the woman's keys.

Seconds later, he got behind the wheel and the other man hopped in the passenger seat and they took off.

Less than two hours later, New Orleans police say cameras captured the men in the lobby of a Harvey bank.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff's investigators say one of the men showed a handgun to a teller at the Chase Bank on Manhattan Boulevard, demanding money.

They say the men left the bank in the stolen Mazda 6 and deputies later found the car abandoned nearby.

Now investigators in both parishes are working to find the suspects.
