LAPLACE, La. - in March someone drove off in a woman's car with her 8-year-old son sitting in the back seat. Now, detectives with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office are looking for help tracking down a man they want to question in the case.

Detectives want to talk to 51-year-old Robert Stout. Crime scene technicians found Stout's DNA in the car.

The incident started March 1 when the woman left the child inside the car with the motor running while she ran into a business on Airline Highway. A man got into the car and drove away. Deputies found the child unharmed inside the vehicle at a gas station.

Detectives say they've spoken to Stout by phone on several occasions. During the last conversation, Stout hung up on them and all attempts to contact him since then have failed.

Investigators say finding Stout is crucial to solving the case. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111. Callers with information will not be required to testify in court and can remain anonymous.
