Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro 700t: a tablet up to any task
According to Gartner, tablet shipments will increase by 53 percent in 2013 while desktop and laptop shipments drop by 11 percent. Their research also shows that Ultrabooks™, which marry a PC with the form factor of a tablet, haven't slowed the staggering popularity of slates. As such, the overall PC market is expected to decline by 8.4 percent in 2013.
But what about those who use mobile devices for work, not just to surf the Web, watch movies, or play games? Does anyone make a tablet capable of delivering desktop-level performance with decent battery life? The answer is "yes."
The Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro 700t meets the needs of mobile professionals with a thin tablet/docking keyboard combo, providing the full functionality and power of a clamshell PC with the increased flexibility and convenience of a tablet.
The slate features an 11.6" display and files are easily accessible with touch capability. For peak performance, the unit runs a third generation Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM (standard), 128GB SSD and up to 8 hours of battery life.
The unit also comes with a detachable keyboard, 10-point touch capability and a Samsung proprietary S-Pen for hand-written note-taking. The S-Pen allows you to take notes, sketch and send messages in handwriting, conveniently storing it in the tablet.
Samsung's competition in this product space is Microsoft's new Surface Pro 2 and the Lenovo ThinkPad Helix, along with convertible notebooks, such as the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro. The ATIV Smart PC Pro needs to updated to use the 4th generation "Haswell" Intel Core i-series family, but otherwise it is a solid choice.
The Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro 700t lists for $1,199.99. For more information, visit Samsung.com.
