Police need public's help in Central City fatal hit and run investigation

New Orleans, La. - A 52-year-old man was killed while he was walking down a Central City street in what New Orleans police call a hit and run.

It happened just before 4:25 a.m. near South Robertson Street.

Police say the victim was crossing Martin Luther King Boulevard near South Robertson Street.  A vehicle traveling northbound on Martin Luther King Blvd. struck the victim and fled the scene.  The victim died lying on the street.

Detectives are asking for residents in the area to check their surveillance video systems for any clues that might help solve the case.

The Orleans Parish Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.  Blood and alcohol test are pending.      

The incident remains under investigation.
