NEW ORLEANS - Rex Ryan brought props to his Wednesday press conference to take a few shots at his twin brother, Saints defensive coordinator Rob. On Friday, the younger brother had his chance to fire back, but he didn't take the bait.
"Well, I mean, he has a 4-4 team," Rob said. "He's working hard. He's trying to deflect a little heat, and obviously I will be the bigger man and walk away. We're just trying to do our job and that's just it. We have no pictures. We're just trying to do our job and trying to win a game."
In NFL meetings, Rex is 4-0 all-time going against Rob, but the Saints coach has him beat when it comes to titles.
"Hey, I have two Super Bowl rings, he has one, so it's an easy comeback. It is what it is, and we will find out Sunday if he can make that same statement," Rob said.
Rex and Rob are both defensive guys. They learned a lot of their core values from their dad, Buddy, who coached for the Bears and Cardinals. With all this insider knowledge of the other's tendencies, Rob must have some info for Drew Brees, right?
"I kind of know my brother, but I'm no help to Drew," he said. "Every time, if Rex plays him the way I played him, it's going to be good for the Saints. There is no stopping Drew. Drew doesn't need my help. He's the best quarterback in the world for a reason. He didn't get anything from me."
Now when it comes to off-the-field encounters for the twin brothers, they're always on the same page.
"We had our own language when we were kids," Rob said. "I guess the most creative thing ever that came into play there was when the woman who's now my wife walked on the airplane, and in twin talk I told him, 'Hey man look at this babe.' I ended up marrying her, so it worked out."
Rex is older than Rob by five minutes, and always the competitor.
"He'll probably say 10 minutes older," Rob said.
