Updated:

NEW ORLEANS -  A 61-year-old man was struck and killed Monday on S. Claiborne Avenue.

The victim's name has not been released pending notification of his family.

The accident happened at about 7:30 p.m. in the 3700 block of S. Claiborne at Gen. Taylor. Police said the man was trying to cross the street when he was struck.

The 17-year-old female driver of the car that hit the man was not cited.

Claiborne was closed from Amelia Street to Napoleon Avenue while police investigated. The street was reopened just after 10:30 p.m.

This is the second pedestrian death in a month at that intersection. On Oct. 9, another pedestrian was struck and killed during the evening hours. On Monday, street lights were out for a stretch of several blocks in the area.
