Student arrested for bringing pellet gun to Houma Jr. High

Houma, La. - A 16 year-old was arrested Tuesday for bringing a weapon to school, according to a spokesperson with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office.

Police say the school's resource officer received information from another student that the teen was in possession of a gun that was tucked in the waistband of his pants.

The officer, along with school administration, removed the student from his classroom. The student was then escorted into the hallway where he was asked if he had a weapon.

The student denied he was carrying the weapon. During a search, the deputy located a .177 caliber pellet pistol tucked in the waistband of the student's pants.

He was arrested for illegal carrying of a firearm/weapon on school grounds.
