Caregiver arrested for theft from elderly Kenner man

KENNER, La. - Kenner Police arrested a woman Tuesday after an elderly man she sat for reported money missing from his checking account.

Janice Nicholson, 49, of New Orleans, was booked with unauthorized use of an access device, theft of assets from the elderly, unauthorized use of a moveable and misdemeanor theft.

The investigation began in September when the 89-year-old victim discovered that his checking account had been compromised and used to pay Entergy bills at a New Orleans address in the amount of $1,074.00 between March and August. Records showed the address belonged to Nicholson's daughter.

Nicholson was arrested after the victim contacted police to report that Nicholson had taken $30 from his wallet and his vehicle.

As police were investigating the second complaint, Nicholson drove up to the victim's home in his car. Police said Nicholson was interviewed and admitted that the victim's checking account information was used to pay the Entergy bill. Nicholson claimed to be self-employed sitter.

Detective Jeff Adams and Officer Casey Smith are in charge of the investigation.

Kenner Police Chief Steve Caraway urges anyone with information about these incidents to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
