Man shot during robbery attempt encounters alleged gunman months later

New Orleans, La. - A French Quarter crime victim says he just happened to run into the guy he says shot him during a robbery attempt. The victim says the chance encounter happened on Halloween, six months after he struggled with his attacker on Dumaine Street.

On Halloween night, Jeff Taylor and a friend ventured into the French Quarter for some fun. But while walking on Decatur Street, Taylor says he heard something that made him freeze. "I heard this voice that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up," said Taylor.

Then, Taylor says he saw a familiar face, explaining, "This is the guy that tried to kill me."

Surveillance video from a nearby business captured an image of Taylor walking past a group of men. He says that group attacked him and two friends in April on Dumaine Street as they were trying to catch a cab. Taylor says the group first attempted to rob him, and then, when he tried to fight back, he got shot him in the shoulder. "He ended up running after he shot me, his friends took off running," Taylor recalled.

Police never made any arrests. Fast forward to Halloween and the chance encounter on Decatur. Taylor says the group tried to hide their faces from him as he walked by but he could still tell who they were. He explains, "You know I've only been shot once and I'll never forget him."

Taylor tried to flag down a nearby cop, but the group got away.

Taylor says a day later he returned to the neighborhood to gather up surveillance footage. He gave copies to the police, who in turn, released some of the footage to the public, saying the men in the video are persons of interest in his shooting. He's hopeful it will help them make arrests saying, "I have confidence in the 8th district. I'm sure they're going to solve this crime."

Jeff Taylor says he isn't going to stop enjoying the city he lives in just because of the actions of a few men looking to commit a crime.
