Chalmette shop owner arrested for selling synthetic marijuana

Chalmette, La. - A Chalmette store owner was arrested Monday for selling synthetic marijuana, according to the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office.

Police arrested 25 year-old Kevin Kumar Shah, owner of Chalmette Discount Cigarettes on Judge Perez Drive.

Store surveillance video showed Shah selling cigarettes to young people dressed in school uniforms who appeared to be below the minimum age for legally buying tobacco products.

He was found with 1.4 pounds of the drug worth $6,300 along with $4,300 when he was taken into custody.

Shah admitted to police he was selling synthetic marijuana, but said he didn't know it was illegal.

Shah was booked with distribution of synthetic marijuana and possession with intent to distribute drug paraphernalia including pipes, scales and grinders.

He was later released on a $50,000 bond.
