NEW ORLEANS - After a speech that focused on economic development, health care reform and the decision by Gov. Bobby Jindal not to accept federal dollars to expand Medicaid eligibility, a New Orleans military veteran got a pleasant surprise along the barricade line after President Barack Obama left the podium and began to greet people who attended his speech Friday afternoon.

Winston Burns Sr. was given a presidential coin in honor of his service to his country.

"Feel like I'm floating, you know, I never dreamed that this would happen, not today," he said.

His son was beaming with joy after a brief word with the president that ended with his father getting something special to take home.

"I mentioned to him that my father was a Montford Point Marine from North Carolina and he stopped in tracks and thanked my father for his service and got one of aides to get my father a medal," said Winston Burns Jr.

The first African-Amercan U.S. Marines were trained at Camp Montford Point in Jacksonville, N.C. in the 1940s.

The senior Burns said he will cherish the presidential token for the rest of his life.

His son said his father had previously received a Congressional Medal of Honor.
