Man shot by Kenner Police officer dies

KENNER, La. - A man shot by a Kenner police officer has died, according to a spokesman for the Kenner Police Department.

Police Chief Steve Caraway held a news conference Monday where he identified the man as 24 year-old Don White.

The shooting happened Friday night around 7pm in the 3500 block of Martinique Avenue.

Police say they received an alert from a camera that recognized a license plate on a stolen vehicle and officers went to check it out.

They say the uniformed officer approached the vehicle and saw a man lying back in the driver's seat with the car running.

The department says the officer gave a verbal command to the man who then accelerated the vehicle towards the officer.

The officer fired his weapon striking the driver.
