NOPD arrests pair for gun possession following traffic stop

New Orleans - Members of the New Orleans Police Department's Second District Task Force arrested two men for illegal gun possession following a traffic stop. The arrests were made Tuesday at the intersection of Colapissa and Cambronne Streets.

According to police, the officers pulled the two men over for a traffic violation. While the officers were running the names of the two men, they learned that the driver, identified as Darrius Clements, 34, was driving on a suspended license and had two warrants out of Jefferson Parish. Clements was also in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun.

The passenger in the car, Michael Coleman, 40, also had a loaded handgun, which officers learned was stolen out of Georgia. Officers also learned that Clements had previous convictions for manslaughter and Coleman for possession of cocaine.

Clements was taken into custody and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a firearm with a control dangerous substance and possession of a control dangerous substance.

Coleman was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a firearm and possession of a control dangerous substance. Both men were booked in the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office.
