Serpas: shooting result of conflict between two Algiers gangs

New Orleans, La. - Wednesday night's shooting of a father and his infant son was the result of a conflict between two Algiers gangs, according to NOPD Chief Ronal Serpas.

At an afternoon news conference, Serpas said 25 year-old Deshawn Butler was affiliated with a group known as the Fischer Fools. The other gang is known as the Hot Block.

Serpas said Butler was shot four times when at least one person in a dark-colored SUV opened fire on the Honda sedan he, his infant son, and two women were riding in.

7 month-old Deshawn Kinard was shot once in the head. The infant died at the hospital.

Serpas said it's too early in the investigation to know if there was more than one shooter or if Butler fire a weapon. Several shell casings were recovered from the scene.

Darlene Cusanza with Crimestoppers says the reward now stands at $15,000. The ATF and FBI each contributed $5,000.

Cusanza says Crimestoppers has received tips, but urges anyone with information to come forward.
