Saints: Greer done for year with torn ACL, Butler returns to practice

New Orleans, La. - The Saints are preparing for the Atlanta Falcons, and the rest of the season without starting cornerback Jabari Greer, who was carted off the field Sunday versus the 49ers with a gruesome-looking left knee injury.

Greer tore his ACL and is now out for the season on injured reserve, the team confirmed Tuesday.

This is a big loss for the Black and Gold on the field and in the locker room. Greer, 31, is a huge part of the defense's heart and soul.

"Jabari is having such a great year. He's a great person, and we'll miss him in the locker room most," defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said. "He was having a great year; he was doing everything we asked him to do and then some."

The next man up mantra likely means it will be a big week for Corey White, the second year corner out of Samford.

"We can't replace Jabari's leadership that he brings, the spiritual leadership that he brings to the team as well as the on-field leadership," defensive end Cam Jordan said. "But talent-wise, I think that Corey White is very promising and he's going to be a great guy in the future."

Greer has been placed on injured reserve and the team has signed defensive back Trevin Wade.

The team also announced that linebacker Victor Butler has returned to practice despite tearing his ACL in June. Butler is still on the Physically Unable to Perform list and the Saints have 21 days to decide whether or not to activate him.
