Taxicab inspector arrested for battery

Updated:

NEW ORLEANS - A taxicab inspector surrendered to police Friday after a warrant for his arrest on a state simple battery charge was issued earlier this week.

Wilton Joiner is accused of roughing up a French Quarter tour guide Nov. 9 as she was leading a group on Royal Street.

Haunted History tour guide Wendy Bosma said she suffered bruises at the hands of Joiner during a dispute over whether she was following the rules. The city suspended Joiner without pay while the investigation continues.

The incident was caught on amateur video.

An attorney said a federal civil rights violations lawsuit and a civil suit will be filed on Bosma's behalf.
