St. Bernard offers Holiday Ride Home


Chalmette, La.  - In an effort to cut down on drinking and driving, the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office is once again implementing a program that offers free rides during the holidays.

For the 30th consecutive year the  St. Bernard Sheriff's Office will offer its free Holiday Ride Home program. The program starts Thanksgiving Day and runs through Jan. 2.

Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann has set up a phone line where people can call to get a ride home.  Pohlmann says the message is simple.  "Don't drink and drive".  Pohlmann says anyone who calls will be given a ride home, no questions asked. 

"Don't take the chance of , injuring someone else or yourself or getting arrested for driving while intoxicated," Sheriff Pohlmann said, "It is not worth the risk."signs telling the public have been put up in the Paris.

The service is offered to residents of St. Bernard Parish.  The number to call for the Holiday Ride Home program is 271-2501.
