Arrest made in killing of deacon from Mississippi


HOUMA, La. - Houma police have arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a Mississippi man.

Randy James Wallace Jr., 18, of Houma, had been named as a person of interest in the Sunday shooting of 66-year-old Connely Duplantis. On Wednesday at 2:45 p.m., police received information that Wallace was in a Chevy Caprice headed to the Gray area. Officers patrolling the area saw a car fitting the description on Martin Luther King Boulevard. A traffic stop was conducted and  Wallace was taken into custody without incident. He was questioned by detectives and charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. He was jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Jail awaiting trial or bond.

Police are still looking for Leron Calloway, 19, of Cherbourg Street in Houma.

On Sunday at 1:11 p.m., Houma Police responding to a call in the 200 block of Carolyn Avenue found Duplantis suffering from gunshot wounds. Duplantis, from Gloster, Miss., was visiting relatives when an unknown suspect shot him and took off running through adjacent yards.

Duplantis was taken to Terrebonne General Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
