Mandeville man dies in motorcycle accident

Mandeville, La. -  A Mandeville man is dead after crashing his motorcycle in St. Tammany Parish.

Louisiana State Troopers say 21 year-old Tyler Bernos was driving a 2013 Suzuki motorcycle Thursday around 5:00 pm on I-12 westbound near La. 1088 when the accident happened. Investigators say he veered left, exited the roadway and traveled almost 180 feet in the grassy medium before he was ejected from the motorcycle and struck a cable barrier.

State Troopers say Bernos was wearing a helmet at the time; however, it was not fastened properly and came off during the crash. They also say he was not properly licensed to operate a motorcycle.

Bernos sustained several injuries and was rushed to the Interim LSU Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash.  A blood sample was taken to determine if alcohol was also a factor.
