Tyreke Evans versus the Pistons will be game time decision

New Orleans, La. - The New Orleans Pelicans are finally getting some positive injury news: reserve swingman Tyreke Evans' sprained left ankle is healing much faster than expected.

Trainers originally thought he'd miss the next 1-2 weeks, but today the Pelicans upgraded Evans' status to day-to-day.

Evans wants to play tonight versus the Detroit Pistons. New Orleans could certainly use him against a physical Pistons team that's as deep in big men as the Pelicans are short of bigs, with Anthony Davis and Greg Stiemsma still out with respective hand and knee injuries.

In 19 games this season, Evans is averaging 11.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.3 steals in 24.9 minutes per game.

The Pelicans coaching staff, however, wants to be especially careful with Evans' ankle, since it's the same one he injured at the beginning of preseason. Evans missed the entire preseason, not returning to action until the regular season.

Evans is making his case to play today, and the coaches will announce their decision shortly before tipoff.
