Water main break floods two businesses in Metairie

Metairie, La. - Two businesses along Airline Drive in Metairie received water damage following a break in a water transmission line.  The break happened around 10 am Monday morning in the 4700 block of Airline Drive when a construction company accidentally broke the water line.

According to Jefferson Parish officials, Circle Construction Company was doing some work in the area when equipment broke a 20 inch transmission line.  For at least an hour, water spewed out from the broken line, causing minor flooding along Airline Drive between Haring Road and Transcontinental Drive.

A spokeswoman for the parish, Kriss Fortunato, says flood waters made it inside of two businesses, although the extent of damage is unknown.

Water to the transmission line was shut off to prevent further flooding and make repairs.  Water service to the area was not interrupted.  Area businesses and homes continued to receive water from an 8 inch line that remained operational.

Fortunato expects repairs to be completed sometime Monday afternoon.
