Suspect booked in string of Audubon Place burglaries

Updated:

NEW ORLEANS - NOPD Second District detectives arrested a suspect Tuesday in connection with several University-area burglaries.

Police said John Canty, 48, confessed to burglarizing several homes this past weekend on Audubon Place, the most recent on Saturday.

In August, there were several other burglaries reported in the same neighborhood, but Canty denies involvement. Detectives are in the process of investigating in hopes of collecting evidence that could link Canty to those incidents.

Canty has been previously arrested for aggravated burglary, 11 simple burglaries, burglary of an inhabited dwelling, criminal trespass, and battery. He is currently on parole until September 2014 for aggravated burglary.

Canty is being held at Central Lockup on two counts of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, two counts of criminal trespass, tampering, and a parole violation.
