LOCKPORT, La. - A suspect in fatal shootings in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes was found dead in his car on U.S. Highway 90 Thursday night, according to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office.

Ben Edward Freeman, 38, of Houma, is suspected in the fatal shootings of three people - including the wife of a parish councilman - and the injuring of two others.

The first incident was reported at about 6:40 p.m. at a home on Hyland Drive in Lockport. In that shooting, Lafourche Parish Councilman Louis Phillip Gouaux and his daughter - who formerly was married to Freeman - were injured, and Gouaux's wife was killed.

The second shooting occurred at 7 p.m. at the home of hospital administrator Milton Bourgeois in the 2900 block of Highway 308 in Raceland. Bourgeois, a former employer of Freeman, died.

The third incident happened on Louis Street in Houma, where Freeman allegedly shot his current wife. Her name and the time of that shooting have not yet been released.
