Single-car crash in Belle Chasse snarls rush-hour traffic

BELLE CHASSE, La. - A single-car crash in Belle Chasse tore down power lines and backed up traffic for about an hour and a half Monday.

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office said that at about 4:40 p.m., the driver of a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro, Kaleb Stowe, 19, of Belle Chasse, lost control in the 9300 block of Highway 23 near Li'l G's Kajun Restaurant in Belle Chasse and struck a utility pole.

The impact caused the pole to crack and live power lines to dangle over both sides of the highway. North and southbound lanes of traffic had to be periodically shut down to allow Entergy crews to repair the lines and pole.

First-responders treated Stowe on the scene and he was subsequently taken to the hospital. Stowe was the sole occupant of the car. No one else was injured.

The cause of the accident is unknown and still under investigation.
