Police officer in critical condition after early morning car crash

New Orleans - A St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's deputy is in the hospital after a car crash early this morning.

Near the end of his shift just before 5 a.m., Deputy Cody Talley was heading east on Louisiana Highway 40 when he crashed into the tree line.

Talley was taken to University Hospital where he underwent surgery and is now listed in stable, but critical condition.

The Crime Lab and accident reconstruction deputies are working to figure out how the accident happened.

Sheriff Jack Strain Jr. asks the public to pray for Talley's speedy recovery and for his wife and two young children. Talley has been with the Sheriff's office since early 2010.
