Police: Marrero murder victim was on military leave

Joseph Anderson, 33 Joseph Anderson, 33

Marrero, La. - Jefferson Parish deputies are investigating the parish's first murder of 2014.

It happened just before 10pm Wednesday night in the 6100 block of Ray Street in Marrero.

Investigators say 33 year-old Joseph Anderson was dropping his three children off at his in-laws' home. He was an active member of the military and was on leave at the time.

As he was leaving, the family member heard a popping sound, but thought it was fireworks.

It wasn't until a few minutes later the family member discovered Anderson had been shot. He died on scene from a single gunshot to the head.

The victim's green 2001 Toyota 4-Runner was also stolen, but was later recovered Thursday morning in the Lincolnshire subdivision in Marrero.
