Updated:

THIBODAUX, La. - Police arrested a man from Gray twice over the course of six days for committing very similar crimes.

Walter Richard has been arrested twice in the past week, once for burglary and once for unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.

On Dec. 28, detectives investigated a burglary in on Abby Road in Thibodaux where several pieces of jewelry were stolen. Detectives learned that Richard had recently sold pieces of jewelry matching the description of the stolen pieces at a local pawn shop. Richard was brought in for questioning and admitted to the crime. He was arrested today on one count of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling.

Richard had also been arrested on Dec. 29 for unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling after a family living on Lee Drive in Thibodaux came home to find Richard in their house. Richard claimed he was trying to get in touch with the family and was released from jail after posting a $1,000 bond. In both cases, police say Richard knew the victims personally.
