METAIRIE, La. (AP) - When Rob Ryan took over what was statistically among the worst defenses in NFL history, the Saints' first-year coordinator promised a flexible scheme that would suit the strengths of whichever players he had.

Injuries have forced Ryan to adjust constantly. Yet he managed to field a top-five unit that helped the Saints make the playoffs, and then slowed down Philadelphia's second-ranked offense in the wild card round.

Ryan says it's been tough to lose a handful of "tremendous football players," but stresses that the Saints' roster is full of talented players who were waiting for opportunities and are performing well.

Ryan says he expects his defense to play better on Saturday in Seattle than its last visit Dec. 2, when it gave up 429 yards in a 34-7 loss.
