N.O. bars and restaurants cashing in on Saints fever

NEW ORLEANS - In the moments following the Saints huge playoff win over the Eagles last Saturday, the huge crowd on hand to watch the game at Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar & Restaurant in the Warehouse District erupted.

"The energy that is created because of the energy of the game is ten times normal energy levels, which is fantastic," said Lucy's General Manager Deborah Schumacher. "It's sort of like Mardi Gras, but in a football game."

A similar scene played out at bars and restaurants across the city, Saturday.

Cell phone videos captured the wild celebration at another Warehouse District spot - The Rusty Nail.

With such massive crowds gathering to cheer on the Black and Gold - business is booming.

"It was so electric. It was as if it were the Super Bowl," said David Brown, co-owner of The Rusty Nail. "Business was amazing last Saturday - record crowds for the Saturday night game, which probably had a lot to do with it, that it was on Saturday rather than Sunday."

With another huge playoff showdown looming, preparations are already under way for Saints-Seahawks.

"This week we're bringing in more bartenders. We're adding as much seating as we possibly can and just kind of bracing for impact," Brown said.

Tracey's in the Irish Channel is also stocking up.

"Definitely bringing in extra beer, the domestics and Abita, stuff like that, yeah, kegs. Probably do about twice the volume," said Tracey's Owner Jeff Carreras. "(Last Saturday was) just craziness. It was tenfold the people. It was just excitement and I guess being in the playoffs, after last year's debacle with the coaching scenario I guess just kind of brought the hype up a little bit more."

We have taken meat and potatoes to the next level with this dish. Sautéed pork chops are combined with creamy potatoes full of cheese, mushrooms and roasted red bell pepper strips to create a one-dish dinner that everyone will love. As an alternative, omit the cheese and have pork chops and scalloped potatoes instead.
