Suspect sought in robbery of elderly woman at Wal-Mart

HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office is searching for a suspect who stole a woman's purse in the parking lot of the Houma Wal-Mart.

A spokesman for the sheriff's office says it happened Monday around 4pm at the Wal-Mart on Martin Luther King Blvd.

The suspect knocked on the victim's car window and told her she had a gas leak.  Then, when the victim got out of in order to check for the gas leak, the suspect reached into her vehicle and stole her wallet.

The man then ran away.  He is described as a large black male wearing a plaid or multi colored shirt.

After leaving the scene the suspect attempted to use the victim's credit cards at a few different stores in the Houma area.

Police are also investigating a similar incident that occurred at the Wal-Mart on Canal Blvd. the same day.
