One-vehicle accident leaves north shore teenager dead

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -- Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L are investigating a single-vehicle crash that left a 19-year-old dead. The accident occurred Sunday at 1:30 a.m. on Highway 190 eastbound near Interstate 10 in Slidell. The victim has been identified as Brandon Taylor Grubbs-Harwell of Pearl River.

According to police, Grubbs-Harwell was driving on Hwy 190 at a high rate of speed. After passing two vehicles traveling in the same direction, his vehicle left the roadway before striking a utility pole. The car overturned and came to rest in a ditch. Grubbs-Harwell was transported to LSU Interim in New Orleans where he later died.

Investigators say that speed is a factor in the crash. Grubbs-Harwell was wearing his seat belt and investigators believe that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. A toxicology test will be performed at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. The crash is still under investigation.
