Traffic stop ends with arrest and drug charges

HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - A routine traffic stop in Houma ended with two men arrested on suspicion of carrying drugs with the intent to sell them on the street.

Police stopped a 2006 Ford F-250 that was driving against oncoming traffic southbound on Grand Calliou Road on Monday around 11 p.m. Investigators say the driver was Jack Lyons, 38, of Chauvin. Officers say Allen White, 43, also of Chauvin, and an unidentified 34-year-old woman were also in the car.

During their investigation, police discovered Lyons was allegedly in possession of various pills, including diazepam and oxycodone. Officers say White also had those and drugs and valium.  Police also found methamphetamine, cocaine and a digital scale from the truck, along with over $30,000 in cash.

Lyons and White were arrested on a number of drug charges related to possession with Intent to distribute methamphetamine, oxycodone, diazepam, valium, transactions involving proceeds from illegal drug transactions and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lyons was also charged with traffic offenses related to the initial stop for driving against traffic, having an expired driver's license and no seat belt.

Both men were transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice complex to be booked on the charges. The 34-year-old female passenger was issued a summons related to the drug charges and released due to an undisclosed medical condition.
