Motorcyclist dies following crash in Jefferson Parish


NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -- Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B are investigating a crash that left a 36-year-old man dead. Emanuel Cook, of Bridge City, died from injuries sustained in the crash. The accident occurred Tuesday, just before 6:00 a.m. at the intersection of Jefferson Highway and Newman Avenue. 

According to police, Dayton Dufrene was driving a pickup truck east on Newman Avenue. When he came to the intersection of Newman and Jefferson Highway, he stopped before continuing across the intersection. Cook was traveling east on Jefferson Highway on a motorized scooter. As the Toyota crossed the intersection, it was struck by the scooter. Cook was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died. 

Dufrene was arrested and charged with negligent homicide and failure to yield. He was booked in the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. Troopers continue to investigate the crash.
