Man jumps into bayou to escape arrest for murder

BAYOU BLUE, LA (WVUE) - A high speed chase ends with a murder suspect jumping into a Louisiana bayou to try to escape.

Deputies are expected to charge Cody Anthony Callais with second degree murder in the death of a 68 year-old man.

Authorities spotted Callais driving in the victim's vehicle in Thibodaux.

After refusing to stop, the 38 year-old abandoned the car and hopped into the bayou and started to swim away.

Police surrounded the area and brought out K-9 dogs.

Callais eventually surrendered and admitted to murder.

Police say the victim is 68 year-old Rickie Samanie.

They found Samanie's body Tuesday evening in his own home in the 3000 block of LA Highway 316 in Houma.
