Morning police chase ends in Laplace; suspect in custody

LAPLACE, LA (WVUE) - A police chase beginning in Kenner ends in Laplace Thursday morning, according to the Kenner Police Department.

A police spokesman says a resident in the 3200 block of Ole Miss went outside around 7:15am to warm up their car and then walked back inside.

When the resident came back outside, they discovered the vehicle, a red 2007 Camry, had been stolen. The police were able to quickly locate the vehicle and a chase ensued.

The chase, involving up to 20 cars, traveled west on I-10 and eventually ended in Laplace when the driver of the stolen vehicle crashed at the Belle Terre exit.

The suspect, identified as 22 year-old Antoine Reid, aattempted to flee but was captured and bitten by a police K-9. 

Police say Reid was on parole for burglary and illegal carrying of weapons until 2016.  Reid has prior convictions for possession of marijuana, burglary, and felony carrying of firearms.  Reid also had a warrant outstanding for parole violations, in addition had just been arrested December 11, 2013, and was out on bond.  

Reid was taken to the hospital to be treated for dog bites.  Reid will be charged with theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated flight from an officer, resisting an officer, no driver's license, and the parole warrants

A  tow truck arrived on scene to clear the wrecked vehicle.
