NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

At least 5,000 people were without power in an area stretching from Uptown New Orleans to the river bend and into Jefferson Parish.

An Entergy spokesperson said power went out around 3:30 a.m.  A witness told FOX 8 he saw a large flash of light just before the outage.

Crews say a dead raccoon in a substation caused the problem.  Nearly 3,500 people were without power as of 6:30 a.m.  Entergy says their power should be restored by 8 a.m.
