Two-alarm fire destroys home in St. Claude neighborhood

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -- New Orleans firefighters are investigating the cause of a two-alarm fire that destroyed a home in the St. Claude neighborhood. The first call came in Sunday, just after 12:30 p.m. The home is located in the 1700 block of Port Street.

According to a New Orleans Fire spokesperson, crews arrived on scene to find the fire coming through the middle of the roof of the one-story double unit that was converted to a single. It took a total of 29 firefighters and nine units a little less than an hour to get the fire under control.

The Red Cross is assisting the family who lived in the home.
