NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - People who want to build a new hotel on Canal Street say they need to demolish four buildings on Tchoupitoulas Street to make room for it.

According to our partners at New Orleans CityBusiness, the developers' goal is to build a 21-story Marriott-brand hotel at 400 Canal Street.

They say the 373-room hotel would create 1,000 construction jobs. They also say it would create 350 full-time hotel jobs and generate $3 million in sales taxes annually.

In order to move forward with the project, developers need to get a height variance waiver from the city.

Developers hope to break ground on the $120 million project by the end of the year.

They estimate it would take 18 months to complete.
