Man dies following three-vehicle crash in St. Tammany Parish

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -- Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L are investigating a three-vehicle crash that left a Jefferson man dead. The accident occurred Monday at 2:30 p.m. on Hwy 25 near Folsom in St. Tammany Parish.

According to police, 76-year-old James Albury of Mount Hermon was driving a pickup truck north on Hwy 25. Gary White, 66, of Jefferson and 53-year-old Robert Ables of Foley, AL, who was also traveling southbound. Albury veered across the center line and completely crossed into the southbound lane. In an attempt to avoid hitting Albury's truck, White swerved into the shoulder but the fronts of each vehicle collided. The impact caused Albury's truck to overturn and come to rest on the highway. White's truck left the roadway and struck a fence. Ables, who swerved to miss Albury's truck, traveled off of the road and side-swiped White's truck.

All three men were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. White was transported to LSU Hospital in New Orleans with moderate to serious injuries, but later died as a result of those injuries. Albury and Ables were not injured. Investigators determined that White nor Ables were under the influence of alcohol. Troopers believe that Albury was under the influence of alcohol and narcotics and a urine sample was taken for analysis. Results from the test are pending and the crash remains under investigation.

Police arrested Albury for DWI, improper lane usage and vehicular homicide and booked him in the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
