NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans police issued an arrest warrant Wednesday for a suspect wanted in connection with the 2008 stabbing death of Jessica Hawk.

Joseph Brant, 44, who is currently serving an 11-year sentence for burglary in Texas, faces a charge of second-degree murder. Paperwork has been filed to bring him back to New Orleans, according to a news release from NOPD.

On August 11, 2008, Hawk's friends called police after Hawk failed report to work and had not been seen for more than a day. Fifth District officers conducted a wellness check and found Hawk's body in her home in the 3000 block of Chartres Street.

In September 2013, Detective Winston Harbin received information about a possible suspect in the murder investigation. Harbin traveled to Beaumont, Texas, to speak with Brant. During the interview, police said Brant confessed to stabbing Hawk.

Brant has been previously arrested for possession of cocaine, burglary, felon With a firearm, possession of stolen property, lewd conduct, hit and run and criminal damage to property.
