New Orleans Arena becomes Smoothie King Center

Updated:

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - It's official, the New Orleans Arena is now the Smoothie King Center.

Tom, Rita and Gayle Benson along with Smoothie King CEO Wan Kim made the announcement today, eight days before the NBA All-Star Game will be hosted in the newly named arena.

The move is part of a 10-year naming rights deal that has been in the works for more than a year because the NBA wanted to ensure that all of the franchise's nutrients and supplements were NBA-compliant.

As part of the deal, Smoothie King will open outlets in both the Arena and the Superdome.

The Smoothie King Center will host it's first NBA game Feb. 7 when the Minnesota Timberwolves travel to play the New Orleans Pelicans.

Smoothie King is locally owned, with 675 stores nationwide.
