NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - People in Gentilly celebrate the completion of a project designed to overhaul a stretch of Wildair Drive.

The project turns land near the intersection of Wildair Drive and Filmore Avenue into a water garden.

City leaders say the garden will collect, temporarily store, and clean up to 500 gallons of rainwater and allow it to gradually flow into the city's drainage system.

The project involved cutting sidewalks in the area. The cut sidewalks will send water from gutters to the garden when necessary.
